Writing exercise: flight of the hummingbird
Hummingbirds are the fairies of the bird world. So tiny and fast, flitting from flower to flower. These mini birds fly up to 45 to 60 miles per hour and their wings beat up to 78 times per second all from a diet rich in sugar.
When was the last time you saw a hummingbird? How did you react? Did you stop to watch or did a smile appear on your face? Do you remember how the sun was reflecting off the feathers or did certain colors stand out?
What impresses you most about hummingbirds? Their speed, their size, or the brilliant iridescent coloring of their feathers?
What if you could sustain such grace and speed on a diet of sugar? How would your life change?
Spend 10 minutes writing about hummingbirds, it can be whatever you want. What do you like about them? What do you do when you see a hummingbird? What would it be like to be so small? Have fun with it, exercise your mind and your creativity.
